Veteran Bails Out Struggling Restaurant with $40K Whiskey Purchase

While whiskey is the telltale sign that a country song has gone south, in real life, there are some happy tears to be spilled in our glasses today.

While our minds are certainly being inundated with news about the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic and the fight for a cure, vaccine, or treatment, there are other daunting issues just waiting in the wings for America.

For much of the nation, life is on pause right now.  We are diligently practicing our social distancing, and seemingly winning the loneliest war that many of us will ever fight in on account of it.  We have begrudgingly accepted this duty in order to save our fellow Americans’ lives, but it could come at the cost of their livelihood.  Staying home means that a great many of our nation’s businesses are suffering, and perhaps none are nearly as affected as the restaurant industry.

Our bars and restaurants are hurting immensely during this time of isolation, and outside of scraping by with curbside pickup options, there is very little income to be had for many.

A Florida man, afraid of perhaps losing his favorite watering hole forever, has now stepped up in a big way.

Like many in the restaurant industry, Suzanne and Roger Perry saw their business — Datz Restaurant Group in Tampa, Florida — take a huge hit because of the coronavirus pandemic.

As a result of such restrictions on the restaurant industry, Datz Restaurant Group went from close to 400 employees to just 27, and the Perrys said they were running out of money to keep even their skeleton staff paid.

“(Our employees are) family now,” Suzanne Perry told CNN. “We’ve watched their children grow up and they’ve done absolutely nothing wrong, but we can’t protect them. There’s absolutely nothing we can do. We can’t pay people when we have no revenue.”

So as a last resort, the couple decided to sell the most valuable item in the restaurant’s inventory: A 25-year-old bottle of Old Rip Van Winkle bourbon.

There is where things get wild.

“I Googled it to see what the prices were online and I saw anywhere from $17,000 to $26,000 online,” Suzanne Perry said. “So I listed it for $20,000, and offered a 15% discount online.”

Offers for the rare spirit started rolling in, but most were much less than the $20,000 they were asking for.

Then, the unthinkable happened.

A woman called and I spoke to her husband,” Suzanne Perry told CNN. “He’s a veteran. He appreciates bourbon and he wanted to add it in his collection and they decided that they would purchase it. We were very happy about that.”

Instead of buying it online, however, the man insisted that he would buy it in person with a cashier’s check.

“He drove it in the next morning and handed Roger the check,” Suzanne Perry said. “Roger looked at it and saw that rather than what would have been $17,000 with the discount that we had offered, the check was written for $40,000.”

The startled restaurant owners at first believed that there had to be some mistake, but the anonymous purchaser, a veteran who wishes to remain anonymous, assured the could that there was no mistake.

When this is all over, and we’re allowed to belly back up to the bar again, we can only hope that someone buys this man a drink.

Florida Parents Sue After School District Orders Students to Wear Masks All Day

Parents in Sarasota, Florida, are suing their school district after officials told students that they would be required to wear masks all day in school.

Parents in Sarasota, Florida, are suing their local school district after officials told students that they would be required to wear masks all day in school.

Parents Amy Cook, Gustavo Collazo, Nicholas Eastman, and Catherine Gonzales signed onto the lawsuit filed in Sarasota County on Oct. 21, according to the Herald-Tribune.

The 59-page lawsuit named the Sarasota County School Board as the defendant.

Along with the state constitution, the suit invokes the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka race-based case that established that every child should have an equal right to education, the paper added.

“The policy of mandatory facemask wear for students of tender years leaves parents with little choice: subject their children to a policy that is not in the best interest of their child, or to be compelled to home school their children in a manner that is both separate and unequal, and also results in additional harms unrelated to COVID-19. Most parents cannot make such a choice, given their own work requirements,” the suit reads. “This ‘Sophie’s Choice’ is being foisted upon the citizens of Sarasota County in an irrational way, in violation of the Florida Constitution.”

The school board claims that wearing masks is required to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, but almost no studies find that people under 30 speared the virus or as susceptible to it.

Per the paper:

The lawsuit argues that the onus is on the government to demonstrate that less “restrictive” public health efforts haven’t worked. And although the intentions of mask-wearing policies might be good, the lawsuit said, that doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do.

“Indeed, the greatest threats to our system of constitutional liberties may arise when the ends are laudable, and the intent is good – especially in a time of emergency,” the lawsuit reads. “In an emergency, even a vigilant public may let down its guard over its constitutional liberties only to find that liberties, once relinquished, are hard to recoup and that restrictions – while expedient in the face of an emergency situation – may persist long after immediate danger has passed.”

Let’s hope the parents win this one. These mask tyrants need to be destroyed.

Scrooge 2020: Macy’s Kills Santa Claus This Year

Macy’s department stores have gone all Scrooge on us for 2020 and canceled its nearly 160-year-old tradition of hosting Santa Claus.

Macy’s department stores have gone all Scrooge on us for 2020 and canceled its nearly 160-year-old tradition of hosting Santa Claus for the Christmas season.

Macy’s gets up to a quarter of a million visitors to its Santa display yearly. But this year the store chain says the coronavirus makes it all too dangerous, according to the AP.

Santa won’t be appearing at any of the store’s locations across the country, the AP reported.

The AP added:

Macy’s has been using Santa Claus to draw crowds to its New York store since the early 1860s, calling itself “The Home of Santa Claus” for decades. And Macy’s had a starring role in the 1947 film “Miracle on 34th Street,” where a girl discovers the real Santa inside the store.

Macy’s will be offering a free online experience on its website at the end of November, where families can play games, get a virtual tour of Santa’s workshop and take a selfie with Santa.

“Moving to a virtual engagement will safely bring the magic of Santa Claus to children of all ages this year,” Macy’s said in a statement to The Associated Press.

2020 has certainly been a massive killjoy, hasn’t it?

Leftist Australian COVID Lockdown Rules Kills Four Newborns

Left-wing coronavirus lockdown rules prevented parents of quintuplets from getting their babies to life-saving surgery and they all died.

Published

Left-wing coronavirus lockdown rules prevented parents of quintuplets from getting their babies to life-saving surgery and they all died.

The quints in Adelaide, South Australia, needed surgery. But the procedure was not available in South Australia and to get the surgery the babies would have had to be transferred to another of Australia’s states.

But South Australia is under severe coronavirus travel restrictions and the parents were denied the ability to take their babies to a place where they might get the life-saving surgery.

All four newborns died thanks to the leftist travel restrictions.

The four babies are not the only deaths in South Australia, though. There have been several deaths in the area because transfers to other states have been denied because of the travel restrictions.

But liberals celebrate death, so, it is no surprise.

Twitter Now Banning Tweets from Official Government Scientists if They Differ with Twitter Dogma

Twitter is now banning tweets from official government scientists if their messages deviate from Twitter’s COVID dogma.

Published

Twitter is now banning tweets from official government scientists if their messages deviate from Twitter’s COVID dogma.

On Sunday, Twitter banned the tweets of Trump’s top COVID adviser, Dr. Scott Atlas, who had tweeted that the latest research shows that mask-wearing is not very effective in stopping the coronavirus from spreading, NBC News reported.

Now, instead of Dr. Atlas’s tweet, users get a message that says, “this tweet no longer available.”

Per NBC:

The tweet in question, posted Saturday by Dr. Scott Atlas, read: “Masks work? NO: LA, Miami, Hawaii, Alabama, France, Phlippnes, UK, Spain, Israel. WHO: ‘widespread use not supported’ + many harms; Heneghan/Oxf CEBM:’despite decades, considerable uncertainty re value’; CDC rvw May:’no sig red’n in inflnz transm’n’; learn why.”

In a follow-up tweet posted later Saturday, Atlas wrote: “That means the right policy is @realDonaldTrump guideline: use masks for their intended purpose — when close to others, especially hi risk. Otherwise, social distance. No widespread mandates.”

So, an actual scientist/doctor who is an official adviser to the government is not a “proper” source for the “experts” at Twitter?

Great.

So, can Twitter tell us who their in-house expert is, and what his education, certifications, and scientific standing is?

After all, Twitter is claiming to know more than Dr. Atlas, aren’t they?

So, what qualifications do they have to prove their standing?

World Health Organization Suddenly Decides Lockdowns Don’t Stop Coronavirus

The WHO has turned on a dime and is now encouraging the world to stop using destructive societal lockdowns as a coronavirus cure.

Published

on

The World Health Organization has turned on a dime and is now encouraging the nations of the world to stop using destructive societal lockdowns as a coronavirus cure.

The studies are in, really, and they all show that these lockdowns have done little to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Worse, they have been more destructive in every other area and have been worse than the virus itself.

Now the World Health Organization’s (WHO) special envoy on COVID-19, Dr. David Nabarro, is urging the world to stop “using lockdowns as your primary control method.”

“We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus,” Dr. Nabarro said to The Spectator’s Andrew Neil. “The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganize, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted, but by and large, we’d rather not do it.”

Nabarro added that the lockdowns have thrown billions of people out of work, destroyed delicate tourist industries, and increased hunger and poverty across the world.

“Just look at what’s happened to the tourism industry in the Caribbean, for example, or in the Pacific because people aren’t taking their holidays,” he continued. “Look what’s happened to smallholder farmers all over the world. … Look what’s happening to poverty levels. It seems that we may well have a doubling of world poverty by next year. We may well have at least a doubling of child malnutrition.”

So, the WHO has now gone from claiming that lockdowns are the only real way to stop the coronavirus, to saying the lockdowns have been worse than the coronavirus.

And liberals claim these people are the “experts” we should always follow?

Well, we have. Now look at the mess the world is in.

Callous Commie Jane Fonda Says COVID-19 is ‘God’s Gift to the Left’

Joe Biden campaign surrogate and long-time left-wing activist actress Jane Fonda now callously insists that COVID-19 is somehow “God’s gift to the left.”

Published

Joe Biden campaign surrogate and long-time left-wing activist actress Jane Fonda now callously insists that COVID-19 is somehow “God’s gift to the left.”

In a recent video, Fonda employed garbled logic to say that the coronavirus that has killed 200,000 Americans is a beautiful thing because it makes Donald Trump look bad.

“I just think that COVID is God’s gift to the Left,” Fonda exclaimed. “That’s a terrible thing to say. I think it was a very difficult thing to send down to us, but it has ripped the band-aid off who [Trump] is and what he stands for and what is being done to average people and working people in this country.”

The actress, who is best known for giving material aid to our communist enemies during the Vietnam War, also said that COVID was a “gift” because it will let the radical left get its way with climate change policies.

“We are people who can help determine which way humanity goes. What a great gift,” she said rapturously, “what a tremendous opportunity, we’re just so lucky, we just have to use it with every ounce of intelligence and courage and wherewithal we have.”

“Hanoi Jane” Fonda was gleeful that the left could “harness the anger” to push its anti-American agenda.

The coronavirus has presented the world with more than a mere opportunity to enact hard-left political policies. Studies and statistics have suggested that the weight of the virus on people’s minds has driven them to drug abuse and subsequent overdoses, and even outright suicides.

In October, a report by the American Medical Association warned that COVID lockdowns have increased the use and abuse of opioids. The report found that up to 40 U.S. states have reported higher rates of drug overdoses.

Also, the death rates both directly from the virus and tangentially are only added to the economic destruction wrought by the lockdowns in nations worldwide. One recent reckoning of the loss claimed that the coronavirus has cost the world’s economy $3.8 trillion.

But it all sure makes Jane Fonda warm and mushy inside.

Experts Discovering COVID Lockdowns Doing More Harm Than Good

Three medical experts have written a letter calling for a different approach to COVID-19 because, they say, the lockdowns have made things far worse.

Published

on

Three medical experts have cooperated on a letter calling for a different approach to the COVID-19 crisis because, they say, the lockdowns have made things far worse.

Dr. Martin Kulldorff, professor of medicine at Harvard University; Dr. Sunetra Gupta, an epidemiologist at Oxford University; and Dr. Jay Bhattacharya, a physician and epidemiologist at Stanford University, have written an address to the world’s government to say that studies are conclusive that all these lockdowns have had a disastrous effect on the world without doing much to beat the coronavirus.

The trio started their letter saying, “As infectious-disease epidemiologists and public-health scientists, we have grave concerns about the damaging physical and mental-health impacts of the prevailing COVID-19 policies and recommend an approach we call Focused Protection.”

They went on to insist that, “Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short- and long-term public health.”

The harm the lockdowns are causing are many and varied: “The results (to name a few) include lower childhood-vaccination rates, worsening cardiovascular-disease outcomes, fewer cancer screenings and deteriorating mental health — leading to greater excess mortality in years to come, with the working class and younger members of society carrying the heaviest burden. Keeping students out of school is a grave injustice.”

They then claim that keeping lockdowns in place until a vaccine is ready “will cause irreparable damage, with the underprivileged disproportionately harmed.”

The three doctors also say that it is now know as fact that the virus affects older people at a high rate, but it is less dangerous even than influenza in children.

The letter continues:

The most compassionate approach that balances the risks and benefits of reaching herd immunity is to allow those who are at minimal risk of death to live their lives normally to build up immunity to the virus through natural infection, while better protecting those who are at highest risk. This is Focused Protection.

Adopting measures to protect the vulnerable should be the central aim of public-health responses to COVID-19. By way of example, nursing homes should use staff with acquired immunity and perform frequent polymerase-chain-reaction testing of other staff and all visitors. Staff rotation should be minimized.

The docs also recommend that schools and universities should be opened for business as usual.

Since the declaration was published, more than 2,000 public-health scientists and more than 2,000 medical practitioners have signed it, as have nearly 40,000 members of the general public. You can add your signature to the declaration online at gbdeclaration.org.
