The Real Message of Duck Dynasty

The entertainment hit from out of nowhere, Duck Dynasty, is now in its third season on A&E. The Robertsons—the family the show is based around—appear to be as unchanged by their newfound fame as is humanly possible. While the show is largely about the men and their daily escapades through Louisiana marshes and swamps, a strong domestic foundation is consistently present thanks to the Robertson women. A recent interview with Missy Robertson, wife of Jase, is an interesting and informative one about the family, but it is also a rare example of honesty and integrity.
What is most intriguing about the entire interview is that never once does Missy take the opportunity to elevate her role in the family. She fully acknowledges that the men—patriarch Phil and her husband Jase, in particular—are the stars of the show, and she doesn’t once indicate that this is not how it should be. She understands her role as one of “supporting cast,” and she seems to be more than fine with this. Missy is secure in where she stands in the Robertson family, and even more secure in where she stands in her marriage. When asked about the challenges of fame to their marriage, Missy had this to say:

We have a very strong marriage. There’s not a whole lot that has gotten to us in our 22 years. I think it’s because of the way we were raised and because of our faith. It’s very rare that a couple like Phil and Kay would have four boys and all of them be married to their original wives for as many years as they have been. And, of course, my parents have been married to only each other. So, when we got married, both Jase and I knew it was for life and for eternity. Of course, when you’re getting married at 19 and 20, who can anticipate anything? Not that we haven’t had challenges, but there’s never been a question that we weren’t going to be together for the rest of our lives.

Notice the effect of examples here. It is not for nothing that Jase and Missy “knew it was for life and for eternity” when they got married. They had at least two other influential examples of what marriage looks like to set the expectation for what their own should look like. This simple and time-tested concept is easily over-looked and too often ignored by parents: marriages that weather external challenges will breed more marriages that weather external challenges.
In reality, this simple message is the big picture idea of the entire Duck Dynasty media blitz. Each and every show presents opportunities for family members to gripe, bicker, one-up, and needle each other in new and entertaining ways. This, in effect, is what true familial life is like on a day-to-day basis.
Talking about the early days, when the show was still in the discussion phase as a “reality show” on the Outdoor Channel sponsored by Benelli Firearms, Missy tells this:

We didn’t know if the show was going to work. We sat around in a meeting with the Benelli company years ago and said, “Wait a minute — reality shows? They live on conflict, dysfunction and trying to get a rise out of each other, for the cameras. We are Christian people. We try to do the opposite. So, we don’t see how this is going to work.”

But in hindsight, this is precisely why the show does work. The Robertsons don’t do anything for the camera that they normally wouldn’t do without a camera. Families, by their very nature, include conflict, dysfunction, and getting a rise out of each other. The unique thing about the Robertsons and Duck Dynasty is that each episode ends with a shared family meal and a prayer—conflict and resolution. The usual reality show formula is conflict, conflict, conflict, until one of the characters explodes at the others. Not so with the Robertsons. Their conflict brings them closer, rather than driving them farther apart.
If the show or the family ever loses this understanding, Duck Dynasty will quickly become like all other reality shows. Missy Robertson understands this because it has been modeled for her by her parents and her in-laws. A real-life example is stronger and lasts much longer than a theoretical lesson.

TV’s Woke Emmy Awards Rings Up Worst Ratings EVER

TV’s Emmy Awards show fell to it lowest ratings ever as fewer and fewer Americans care about wealthy ultra-woke entertainers patting each other on the back.

TV’s Emmy Awards show fell to it lowest ratings ever as fewer and fewer Americans care about wealthy ultra-woke entertainers patting each other on the back and handing out awards to themselves.

Sunday’s “virtual” awards show — which featured all the winners sitting in their livingrooms instead of at a theater — was a ratings disaster.

Per the New York Post:

An average audience of 5.1 million viewers watched the socially distant ceremony, down from last year’s already record low of 6.9 million, according to TV Line. With few surprises — save for “Euphoria’s” Zendaya’s shocking upset in the Best Actress in a Drama category — and an uneven array of best and worst moments, returning host Jimmy Kimmel and the pandemic-sidelined virtual victors were unable to stop the ratings slide from 2019. It seems the cardboard cutouts on hand for Kimmel’s opening monologue may have been paying more attention than the folks who actually tuned in.

The 2020 VMAs were also a ratings disappointment.

Ratings are in for the annual awards show, which went on Sunday despite the challenge of social distancing. According to Variety, the show drew 6.4 million viewers across all ViacomCBS platforms during the simulcast, a 5% drop from 2019. That number includes the pre-show, main event, post-show and encores; no figures were available for only the two-hour primetime broadcast.

By comparison, last year’s event — including the two-hour primetime show itself, hosted by comedian Sebastian Maniscalco — drew an audience of 6.8 million for all programming. The 2019 primetime event itself attracted 4.9 million total viewers.

Americans are caring less and less what “celebrities” are doing and saying.

Clearly Hollywood and the entertainment industry is wearing out its welcome.

Country Singer Chris Stapleton Says He Now Realizes America is Evil

Country Singer Chris Stapleton says he now realizes that the United States is evil and the country he grew up thinking was great is a myth.

Country Singer Chris Stapleton says he now realizes that the United States is evil and the country he grew up thinking was great is a myth.

Speaking to CBS, the “Broken Halos” singer said that the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd was a turning point for him.

Stapleton said that Floyd’s police-involved death was a “broad awakening” for him.

“I think everybody should be doing more,” he said, according to Fox News. “It’s time for me to listen. And it’s time for other folks to listen.”

He added that Floyd’s death made him realize something about the country.

“You know, I thought we were living in a different country. And that’s 100% real,” the “Tennessee Whiskey” singer explained. “I feel like the country that I thought that we were living in was a myth.”

The Kentucky native said that he is now a big believer in the Black Lives Matter terrorist cause.

“Do I think Black lives matter? Absolutely… I don’t know how you could think they don’t. I think we all have a lot of work to do, you know, as individuals as a society. And if you don’t think that, I think you’re not looking,” he said.

The singer’s latest album is also a political statement.

Per Fox:

Stapleton’s latest album also touches upon another sad moment in recent American memory, the 2017 mass shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas that left 59 people dead. The track “Watch You Burn” features lyrics like, “Only a coward would pick up a gun, and shoot up a crowd trying to have fun.”

Looks like patriotic country fans have another singer to cross off their list.

Screw Art: Oscars Will Now Only Allow Entry to Films that Meet Diversity Quotas

The Academy of Motion Pictures has announced that no film will be allowed to enter the race for an Oscar unless they meet politically correct “diversity quotas.”

The Academy of Motion Pictures has announced that no film will be allowed to enter the race for an Oscar unless they meet politically correct “diversity quotas.”

Remember when Hollywood used to contend that they made “art”?

Remember in the 60s and 70s when politicians used to complain about movies and Hollywood said it was disgusting to force ideological censorship on their “art” because it violated their “artistic integrity”?

Now they are censoring themselves for PC “diversity” and none of them are squawking about their “art.”

Gutless hypocrites.

Per National Review:

Ahead of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy’s fifth anniversary, the Academy has announced a new set of inclusion requirements films must meet to be awards-eligible.

To be eligible for best picture, films must meet the standards of two out of four categories laid out in a press release on Tuesday: “Onscreen Representation, Themes and Narratives,” “Creative Leadership and Project Team,” “Industry Access and Opportunities” and “Audience Development.”

Recent best picture nominees including “1917” and “The Irishman” may have struggled to meet the new onscreen standards that will require at least one of the following criterion to be met: at least one of the lead actors or significant supporting actors is from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group; at least 30% of all actors in secondary and more minor roles are from certain underrepresented groups; or the main storyline, theme or narrative is centered on an underrepresented group.

To meet the creative leadership and project team standard, at least two “creative leadership positions and department heads” must be filled by those belonging to underrepresented groups, including the “casting director, cinematographer, composer, costume designer, director, editor, hairstylist, makeup artist, producer, production designer, set decorator, sound, VFX supervisor and/or writer.” At least six other crew positions must also be filled by those belonging to underrepresented groups. Such “positions include but are not limited to first AD, gaffer, script supervisor” and more.

“Academy governors DeVon Franklin and Jim Gianopulos headed a task force to develop the standards that were created from a template inspired by the British Film Institute (BFI) Diversity Standards used for certain funding eligibility in the UK and eligibility in some categories of the British Academy of Film and Television (BAFTA) Awards, but were adapted to serve the specific needs of the Academy,” explained the release. “The Academy also consulted with the Producers Guild of America (PGA), as it presently does for Oscars eligibility.”

So… who cares about any director, writer, or actor’s “artistic integrity”?

Now we are making films under racial quotes?

This will mean the absolute destruction of the careers of tens of thousands of white people in the film industry who will suddenly find that they are un-hirable.

We will also see fewer people going to Hollywood to work in the film industry in the first place.

But maybe that’s a good thing.

Twitter Erupts After HBO Pulls Classic Film Over Portrayal of African Americans

Many have rebuked the idea of sanitizing historical fiction altogether, and are warning us that there are plenty of other films that could soon be banished from pop culture.

Americans the nation over are experiencing some growing pains as of late, after the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police reawakened our struggles with racism and inequality.

This has been the singular issue of focus in the United States for over two weeks now, which is an impressive feat given the ongoing global pandemic that we are facing.

Beyond the obvious activism, however, there has been a renewed push to sanitize history as well – and not everyone is thrilled with that idea.

Gone With the Wind, the Civil War epic considered a classic of American cinema, has been temporarily pulled from HBO Max.

The move comes as media companies reappraise content in light of nationwide protests over police brutality and systemic racism after the death of George Floyd, a Black man killed by Minnesota police. Earlier on Tuesday, Paramount Network cancelled the long-running police reality show Cops.

Why now?

Long considered controversial for its depiction of Black people and its positive view of slavery, Gone With the Wind faced renewed scrutiny after an op-ed by 12 Years A Slave screenwriter John Ridley published in the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday. In the op-ed, Ridley called on HBO Max to “consider removing” Gone With the Wind from its platform as the film had its “own unique problem.” “It doesn’t just “fall short” with regard to representation. It is a film that glorifies the antebellum south. It is a film that, when it is not ignoring the horrors of slavery, pauses only to perpetuate some of the most painful stereotypes of people of color,” Ridley wrote.

He added: “It is a film that, as part of the narrative of the “Lost Cause,” romanticizes the Confederacy in a way that continues to give legitimacy to the notion that the secessionist movement was something more, or better, or more noble than what it was — a bloody insurrection to maintain the “right” to own, sell and buy human beings.”

The move briefly caused Blazing Saddles to trend on Twitter, with many wondering how long the classic parody film will remain available to watch in this climate of social justice.

Anderson Cooper Resorts to Grade School Bullying on Subject of Trump’s ‘Girth’

This is purely despicable.

For as often as CNN feigns remorse at the bombast displayed by President Trump, you would think that someone at the network would be responsible for making sure that the left-leaning infotainment company practices what they preach.

Apparently not.

This week, as the network once again spends hours and hours attempting to belittle and delegitimize the Trump White House, anchor Anderson Cooper went a step further and resorted to fat-shaming the leader of the free world.  Even more disturbing was the fact that the attack came as Cooper was discussing a series of controversial tweets by the President that themselves have been characterized as “bullying”.

Cooper said, “Leadership today also apparently consists of spreading vile conspiracy theories on Twitter about a former staffer for then-Congressman Joe Scarborough and doing it over and over again. Traumatizing her family and her husband so deeply that he begged the company to take down the president’s tweets because they’re not true about his wife.”

After playing a clip of Trump defending his Tweets at a press conference earlier, Cooper said, “What a little man. He’s just a little man. He’s the leader of the free world, and he is a little, little man. A self-proclaimed wartime leader — a leader in the midst, he says, of a transition to greatness for the country, spreading falsehoods about a dead woman, despite the pain and the pleas of her husband and family and doesn’t have the guts to say he doesn’t care about what they think. No, no, he doesn’t have the guts to say, ‘You know what, I don’t care what they think because this serves my political purposes.’ That’s why he’s doing it. He doesn’t have the guts to say that because he is just a little man despite his girth and size. He’s a little man inside, and he knows that. That, too, is now what leadership looks like. The president of the United States raising conspiracy theories about a dead woman, though her family is begging Twitter to take them down.”

If anyone had remarked on the “girth” or “size” of any other world leader, they would immediately be yanked off the air and sent to sensitivity training.

Meghan McCain Trashes Chris and Andrew Cuomo Over Hokey-Jokey CNN Segment

You know things are rough at CNN when The View is producing more hard-hitting journalism than the “worldwide leader in news”.

In New York State, there is great heartbreak this week.

Not only was New York City the epicenter of the global coronavirus pandemic for weeks on end, but Empire State Governor Andrew Cuomo is now being accused of recklessly endangering a vast number of at-risk Americans by sending COVID-19 patients to be treated at nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Despite this horrific controversy being the number one story out of New York State this week, Governor Cuomo’s brother, CNN Anchor Chris Cuomo, refused to bring it up while the two spent a significant portion of the latter Cuomo’s show together, enraging America in the process.

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo sparked Twitter outrage on Wednesday night when he again did not address New York’s growing nursing-home controversy in his latest interview with his brother, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and instead performed prop comedy with giant cotton swabs.

The response was swift.

Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., has been the leading voice calling for an investigation into the Democratic governor’s original March directive. “Today I joined my [New York GOP] colleagues in the House to call for a federal investigation of Cuomo’s failed nursing home policies,” Stefanik tweeted Friday. “NOW they admit they unethically changed the way they report nursing home deaths. An INEXCUSABLE tragedy for NY — NEED ANSWERS.”

But you would never know it if you watched “CNN Prime Time,” where Chris Cuomo spent 25 minutes chatting up his older brother, who he calls the “Love Gov” on-air, and never asked about the controversy. Instead, the CNN anchor played a clip of his brother taking a coronavirus test where a nurse placed a cotton swab up his nostril and joked about the size of his sibling’s nose, complete with props.

Perhaps the most biting criticism came from Meghan McCain via Twitter.

You know things are rough at CNN when The View is producing more hard-hitting journalism than the “worldwide leader in news”.

Tara Reade Legal Team Quits After CNN Publishes Hit Piece on Biden Accuser

Where was their hit piece on Stormy Daniels?

The Democrats certainly spent an inordinate amount of time talking about Stormy Daniels and the Access Hollywood incident, didn’t they?  Are we all remembering just how much time was wasted on those stories?

Sure, they are stories that we should hear.  They shouldn’t be squirreled away forever, and we are Americans who have the right to vote for whomever we want – including someone who may says things that make us uncomfortable.  But those stories very well could have come and gone in a  night or two, if it weren’t for the mainstream media’s incessant and constant coverage of them.

Now that Joe Biden is being accused of sexual assault by a former staffer, however, much of the infotainment industry is dead quiet.

Well, expect for CNN, who has decided that it’s not only a good idea to publish a hit piece attacking Biden’s accuser, but then they go and brag about their handiwork forcing her lawyers to quit.

A lawyer who represented Tara Reade, the woman who has accused Joe Biden of sexually assaulting her in 1993, announced Friday that Reade is no longer his firm’s client.

Doug Wigdor said the decision to no longer represent Reade was made on Wednesday, the day after CNN published an extensive investigation about Reade’s background and past statements. In the report, CNN first revealed problems with Reade’s claim that she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Antioch University in Seattle; the school denied to CNN that she ever graduated from the university.

Wigdor had sent CNN a lengthy statement on Monday responding to numerous questions related to the story. However, Reade directly contacted CNN on Monday night to discuss the issue of her degree from Antioch, telling a CNN reporter that she had asked for and received permission from Wigdor to reach out directly.

CNN would go on to repeat their claims against Reade later in this same gloating piece, only further pushing the idea that Reade is not credible.

This is in spite of the fact that several witnesses have emerged to state that they explicitly recall Reade telling them of the incident around the time that it occurred in 1993.
