The Hollywood Left Is Not Leftist Enough for Ocasio-Cortez

Published

on

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s political celebrity tour takes her to Southern California, but not to meet Hollywood Left bigwigs.

On the one hand, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a politcal rock star but on the other hand she isn’t playing for the big concert venues. She has come to Hollywood, but she’s not meeting (or even talking to) the big donors and leaders of the Hollywood Left.

So the question remains, will Ocasio-Cortez disrupt the entire Democratic Party or was her election upset in her district a fluke? As a conservative, I hope she succeeds and gets the DNC to further marginalize itself.

According to The Hollywood Reporter: “Is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Too Far Left for Hollywood?

With rock-star Democratic congressional candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez set to make her Los Angeles debut on Thursday, the 28-year-old’s two-day trip will be marked as much by the throngs of people she’ll meet as by  handful of notables that she won’t.

Trending: President Trump Flips Another Liberal Court to a Conservative Majority

In a break with tradition, Ocasio-Cortez, who labels herself a democratic socialist, has no plans to meet with any of the entertainment industry’s Democratic political power brokers while she is in town. She will not be having coffee with Carl Reiner. There will be no sitdown with Jeffrey Katzenberg or David Geffen. No $5,000-a-plate dinner at Robert Iger’s mansion in Brentwood.

“None of our clients are meeting with her,” says Marie Lloyd of the political and philanthropic consultancy Gonring, Spahn & Associates, which counts Katzenberg and Steven Spielberg as clients. And none of the other political operatives or members of the industry’s donor class reached by phone were aware of any meetings scheduled with Ocasio-Cortez. Some weren’t even aware she was coming to town.

But it’s not just the donors. Even though Mayor Eric Garcetti is currently in Asia, a source within City Hall tells The Hollywood Reporter that Ocasio-Cortez’s team did not make any outreach to his office regarding her trip.

[…]

Ocasio-Cortez declined to comment for this article, but activists and political observers who spoke to THR were not surprised by her decision to eschew L.A.’s political establishment, noting that it was very much “on brand” for the candidate whose far-left New York City district makes her all but a lock to win in the November general election.

[…]

“Eric [Garcetti] is the establishment,” says Sherry Bebitch Jeffe, a senior fellow at the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy. “It’s so funny to say that, but given the state of the Democratic Party, Eric is considered part of the establishment and Ocasio-Cortez is not going to want to cozy up to them.”

Schiff Workin’ for The Weekend with Saturday Testimony from Budget Office

The Democrats are persistent, we’ll give ’em that.

Published

on

The Democrats and their “resistance” are running hot this week, after fireworks erupted in the House Intelligence Committee chambers during public impeachment hearings against Donald Trump.

At the center of this mess has been Democratic Representative Adam Schiff, chairman of the aforementioned intel committee.  His selective enforcement of the Democrats’ own rules on impeachment has irked the Republican Party to no end, after already finding themselves befuddled by Schiff’s secret and clandestine hearings weeks ago.

Now, Schiff’s got ’em working on the weekend.

House impeachment investigators met in private Saturday with a White House budget official as the historic inquiry produces new testimony offering direct insight of President Donald Trump’s actions toward Ukraine.

After a week of dramatic public hearings, investigators heard late Friday in closed session from State Department official David Holmes, who delivered a firsthand account that puts the president at the forefront of events.

What exactly did Holmes allege to have heard?

Holmes, the political counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, testified that he overheard Trump in a phone call with his European Union ambassador, Gordon Sondland, saying he wanted Ukraine to conduct investigations. Sondland later explained the investigations pertained to “Bidens” — a reference to former Vice President Joe Biden and Biden’s son Hunter, who served on the board of a gas company in Ukraine. No wrongdoing by either Biden has been substantiated.

And about that Budget Office testimony?

The latest witness was Mark Sandy, a White House budget officer, as Democrats scrutinize the administration’s decision to withhold military aid from Ukraine while Trump pushed the country’s new president for the political investigations.

Sandy was the first official from the Office of Management and Budget to defy Trump’s instructions not to testify. Like others, he received a subpoena to appear.

Republicans have been making the case that, since the aide money was not ultimately withheld, and since the Ukraine didn’t even know about the holdup, there was no possible way that the President’s negotiations on a July 25th phone call could amount to an incriminating act.

Nancy Pelosi Says Trump is ‘Imposter’ After POTUS Torches Yovanovitch

Pelosi is losing her grip on civility.

Published

on

Nancy Pelosi was doing fairly well at biting her tongue during this otherwise divisive impeachment process, attempting, at 79 years of age, to be the adult in the room.

Madam Speaker is losing her patience, however, and has begun to lash out, directing her ire at Republicans, the press, and even the President.

Her latest tirade against Trump saw the longtime Democrat insult the Commander in Chief as an “imposter”.

From a recent CBS interview:

Pelosi answered, “What the president, and perhaps some at the White House have to know, that the words of the president weigh a ton. They are very significant, and he should not frivolously throw out insults, but that’s what he does. I think part of it is his own insecurity as an impostor. I think he knows full well that he’s in that office way over his head. And so, he has to diminish everyone else.”

Just days ago, Pelosi had a similar lapse in civility during a Q&A with the press, in which she belittled one of the gathered reporters as “Mr. Republican Talking Points”.

Pelosi herself was reluctant to engage in this “formal impeachment inquiry” for months, only finally join her fellow Democrats in calling for such a maneuver after an anonymous whistleblower with second and third-hand knowledge of possible improprieties attributed to the President.

Rudy Giuliani Jokes About ‘Insurance’ Against Trump Throwing Him Under the Bus

The Democrats seem to think that Trump will be cutting Rudy loose, and the former NYC Mayor’s joke is raising some eyebrows as a result.

Published

on

The net being cast by the Democrats during this impeachment inquiry is growing ever wider, as their hopes of taking the nation hostage until the 2020 election continues to evolve.

Taking a cue from the RussiaGate conspiracy investigation and Robert Mueller himself, the left is drawing ever larger circles around their potential targets, possibly in a bid to intimidate Donald Trump – an ill-advised strategy given how unflappable the Commander in Chief has been over the course of the last three years.

The latest Trump confidante in the crosshairs is now Rudy Giuliani, who the Democrats are accusing of running some sort of “shadow diplomacy” on the subject of Ukraine.  When asked if he was worried about the President letting him take the fall for this fiasco, the former Mayor of New York City had an alarming joke.

In an interview with The Guardian, the former New York mayor was asked whether he was nervous the president might decide to throw him under the bus.

The House is investigating claims Trump abused his office in waging a pressure campaign, in which Giuliani played a key role, for Ukraine to announce investigations meant to benefit Trump politically.

“I’m not, but I do have very, very good insurance, so if he does, all my hospital bills will be paid,” Giuliani remarked in the article, published Thursday.

At this point in the call Giuliani’s own attorney, Robert Costello, interjected to say: “He’s joking.”

The humor did raise some eyebrows, however, particularly when coupled with some recent mainstream reporting.

Axios reported that they were mulling portraying him as a rogue actor who sought to broker a deal with Ukraine without the president’s full knowledge.

Giuliani in the interview insisted that Trump was a “very loyal guy” who would not abandon an ally.

Given that President Trump has staunchly defended Roger Stone just moments after his recent legal loss, it is doubtful that someone as close to the President as Giuliani would find himself on the outs anytime soon.

Trump Tweet Regarding Yovanovitch Triggers Eric Swalwell Live During Impeachment Hearing

Swalwell would go so far as to say that the tweet could be an article of impeachment itself.

Published

on

The ongoing public impeachment hearings were worrisome to many Americans, who believed that such a spectacle would turn our nation’s capital into a circus, and make a mockery of the sacred spaces in which they occur.

They were right.

Our nation’s public servants sit before us today, railing against President Trump in unbelievable new ways, hoping to conjure some sort of offense out of thin air that will allow them to reverse the results of the 2016 election, some three years after Americans let their voices be heard.

During this latest round of testimony from former Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch, a tweet by President Trump was suddenly the topic of discussion – triggering House Democrat Eric Swalwell in the process.

During a Friday interview with CNN:

Host Anderson Cooper asked, “You think this should be added, potentially, to articles of impeachment?”

Swalwell said, “It should be considered. Because there’s strong evidence of intimidation.”

The tweet in question came during Yovanovitch’s congressional testimony.

The President also clarified that ambassadorship isn’t the sort of job that comes with an HR department.

Ms. Yovanovitch’s testimony is ongoing at this time, with a stark contrast in tone between party lines.

Freshman Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez Calls for Resignation of White House Adviser Stephen Miller

AOC has completely ignored the fact that Miller’s ancestors were themselves persecuted on account of their ethnicity.

Published

on

Of all of the absurd and inflammatory claims being made about Donald Trump and his administration, none has been more offensive than the allegation that he and his inner circle are promoting racism and bigotry.

This is the liberal equivalent of going nuclear, as it invokes hundreds upon hundreds of years worth of hatred and violence here in the United States, and it quite difficult to defend against as racism itself is only a trait that is apparent during the brazen acts that all who witness them can instantly recognize.  As such, the possibility of someone possessing such vile traits without being outed en masse is quite slim.

Yet, still, small pockets of the Democratic Party continue to employ the tactic to defame those with whom they disagree politically.

“Stephen Miller, Trump’s architect of mass human rights abuses at the border (including child separation & detention camps w/ child fatalities) has been exposed as a bonafide white nationalist,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter on Tuesday. “He’s still at the White House shaping US immigration policy. Miller must resign. Now.”

On Wednesday, she retweeted a link to her online petition calling for Miller’s resignation.

“Each day we allow a white nationalist to be in charge of US immigration policy is a day where thousands of children & families lives are in danger,” the New York Democrat said. “This year alone, under Miller’s direction, the US has put almost 70,000 children in custody.” She did not cite her source for that figure.

Of course, Miller’s ancestors were themselves persecuted on the basis of their ethnicity – a point that was not lost on his defenders.

Fellow “Squad” member Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., previously criticized Miller’s influence on federal immigration policy when she called him a “white nationalist” on Twitter in April.

Critics of Omar pointed out that Miller is Jewish and condemned her remarks as anti-Semitic. The president’s son, Donald Trump Jr., also weighed in, calling Omar the “head of the Farrakhan Fan Club” and saying she “apparently has no shame.”

President Trump defended Miller by retweeting a quote attributed to media executive Jeff Ballabon, CEO of B2 Strategic.

“What’s completely unacceptable is for Congresswoman Omar to target Jews, in this case Stephen Miller,” Ballabon reportedly said.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is known for her hyper partisan rhetoric and unkempt rage when it comes to all-things-Trump, making this latest outburst seem rather ordinary, despite its alarming nature.

Pelosi Escalates Anti-Trump Rhetoric by Invoking ‘Bribery’ in Press Conference

Pelosi also refused to acknowledge that none of the witnesses brought forth so far have had direct knowledge of the supposed improprieties, and admonished a reporter for mentioning that fact.

Published

on

The constant shifting and refocusing of the Democrats’ case for impeachment has been more than a mere annoyance for Americans the nation over, and lends a great deal of gravity to the idea that we are now living in a world where our elected leaders will be forced to work under indefinite investigatory pressure for the entirety of their terms.

Now, while President Trump continues to remind lawmakers that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky felt “no pressure” during a supposedly damning phone call between the two nations back in July, the Democrats are purposefully evolving their verbiage on the subject to keep the interest of their political base.

The latest example of these semantic gymnastics come to us from House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who today described the aforementioned phone call as “bribery”.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says the president’s actions in the impeachment inquiry amount to “bribery.”

Pelosi told reporters Thursday that while President Donald Trump says his call with Ukraine was “perfect,” she thinks “it’s perfectly wrong.”

There was a very specific reason for this language as well:

Bribery is an impeachable offense spelled out in the Constitution.

Pelosi would go on to chastise one reporter for mentioning the Republican defense of the President that much of what is being exposed by this impeachment “inquiry” is second or third-hand knowledge or “hearsay”.

While it is true that the witnesses brought forth so far have had no direct knowledge of the information alleged in the now-infamous whistleblower complaint, Pelosi and other Democrats have attempted to portray this fact as irrelevant in hopes of continuing their ruse for an as-of-yet undetermined amount of time.

Jordan Shreds Democrats’ Impeachment Witness: ‘What You Heard Did Not Happen’

Jordan Shreds Democrats’ Impeachment Witness: ‘What You Heard Did Not Happen’

Jim Jordan shredded the Democrats’ impeachment witness Ambassador William Taylor: ‘What you heard did not happen.’

Today in a nutshell: Ambassador William Taylor wasn’t on the call. He’s never spoken with Mulvaney. He’s never met the president. And he’s their star witness. “I’ve seen church prayer chains that are easier to understand than this.” -Jim Jordan

TDW:

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) ripped Democrats’ impeachment witness Ambassador William Taylor on Wednesday as he deconstructed the narrative the Democratic Party has promoted surrounding President Donald Trump’s July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

During one exchange, Jordan highlighted Taylor’s limited knowledge of the events about which he was testifying:

Jordan: You didn’t listen in on President Trump and Zelensky’s call?

Taylor: I did not.

Jordan: You’ve never talked with Chief of Staff Mulvaney?

Taylor: I never did.

Jordan: You’ve never met the president?

Taylor: That’s correct.

Jordan: You had three meetings again with Zelenksy and it didn’t come up … and President Zelensky never made an announcement. … and you’re their star witness.

“In those 55 days that aid is delayed, you met with President Zelensky three times,” Jordan said. “The first one was on July 26, the day after the famous call now between President Trump and President Zelensky.” More
