Panic! Fear! Horror! Antarctic Glaciers Are Melting!

You have to love the headline from “To Scientists’ Horror, Antarctic Ice Begins Unstoppable Collapse: Point of No Return Has Passed, Researchers Say.”
If only they had used exclamation points.

Two groups of scientists studying the West Antarctica ice sheet have come to the same chilling conclusion: The mighty glaciers have begun a thaw that will cause sea levels to rise 10 feet or more and there’s nothing we can do about it. “A large sector of the West Antarctic ice sheet has gone into a state of irreversible retreat,” says the lead author of one paper, explaining that warming waters are destabilizing the edge of a vast amount of ice and causing a slow collapse in a process he likens to uncorking a full bottle of wine that is resting on its side, Reuters reports.

So that’s it. Flee from the coasts. Head to the mountains. If you live in New York than find room up on the third floor or above in one of the taller buildings. The water is rising.
Except it is not. “The thaw and sea level rise is expected to happen over the next few centuries…”
Many headlines about these allegedly independent reports were hyped beyond reason. They were so bad that the Global Warming alarmist at Dot Earth, Andrew C. Revin, was embarrassed by them and tried to talk some sense.

That’s why it’s important to get beyond headlines — including the titles of papers — in considering new research pointing to the inevitable “collapse” of ice sheets in West Antarctica. To the public, collapse is a term applied to a heart attack victim on a street corner or a building stricken by an earthquake or bomb. To a glaciologist, it describes the transition to unavoidable loss of an ice sheet — a process that can take centuries to get into gear, and millenniums to complete.

Not centuries now, millennia (which is the proper plural form of “millennium”).
That last link is also revealing because Revin writes about the same melting ice sheets back in 2009. What is really new about these studies?
In fact, this entire panic was published in 1922! The real science blog posted this newspaper story.

In many parts of the world geologists find signs that seem to point to a time when the sea level was much higher than it is now. In British Columbia, along the Rocky Mountains, and the Andes, and on many mountain ranges of the Old World also are prehistoric sea beaches, all at an average of 1,000 ft. above the pre-sent margin of the sea. Many regions of high land have, we know from other evidences, been bodily raised by volcanic action or by the crinkling of the earth’s surface (the Himalayas, for instance,  though the biggest, is almost the youngest mountain range), but the existence of so many old beaches at about the same height above the present beaches has suggested the theory that the sea itself was once a thousand feet deeper than it is today (observes “Everyday Science”).

If so, what has become of the enormous mass of water that vanished or was withdrawn when the ocean level fell 1,000ft.? It is now held prisoner in the polar ice-caps, and especially in that of the South Pole. The world, we know, has at immense intervals alternated between glacial epochs and warm epochs. Those high beaches were made by the sea, it is averred, when in the last warm epooh both polar ice-caps had shrunk to their smallest dimensions, and all the water pent up in high-piled ice fields and glaciers had been released to find its level over the globe. Then came a glacial epoch with a reforming of the ice and a shrinking of the sea to a level much lower than its present. We are now, it is believed, slowly approaching another warm epoch, when, if it becomes universal, affecting both hemispheres together, the ice will again melt, and the sea rise to its ancient level, submerging an enormous portion of what is now dry and thickly populated land. According to another view the melting of the ice and rise of the sea may occur comparatively suddenly instead of being a very gradual process, spread over many centuries. The formation of ice is not equal at both Poles; the Antarctic ice-cap is much the more extensive and more massive, and, they hold, it is actually still increasing by evaporation from the immense sea areas of the Southern Hemisphere and condensation over the great ice-covered Antarctic continent. With ice ever forming above and a sea gradually growing warmer below, the process must eventually overbalance, the undermined glaciers disintegrate, and the ice-caps break up. Mountain after mountain of ice will fall into the sea, bes wept northwards by the currents, and melt, thus bringing about, but at a much more rapid rate, the threatened inundation of the land by the rising of the sea to its ancient level. Conceivably some such breaking-up of a polar ice-cap has occurred once before since man appeared on the earth. The Biblical deluge and the almost universal story, common to the mythology or traditions of peoples in all parts of the world, of a world-wide flood may have had its origin in the melting of the ice at the Pole and the pouring toward the equator of the pent-up waters.

So this is what we are supposed to be scared about. Which is going to be harder to deal with? A ten-foot rise in sea level in a thousand years or a world where producing energy is illegal or so constrained that only the rulers get to enjoy cars and electricity?
They want to scare you into submission. Don’t panic.

Wind Turbine Blades Can’t Be Recycled, Now They’re Piling Up in Landfills

Nice going environuts, now your broken and used wind turbine blades are piling up by the thousands in landfills.

Nice going environuts, now your broken and used wind turbine blades are piling up by the thousands in landfills.

Do you environuts ever do anything right?

Apparently, the material in these millions of wind turbine blades cannot be recycled, according to Bloomberg.

These turbine blades are huge, too. Each one is as long as the wing on a 747. And that means they can’t be just carted away. They must be chopped up into at least three sections to fit on flatbed trucks to be carted away.

As Bloomberg noted:

Tens of thousands of aging blades are coming down from steel towers around the world and most have nowhere to go but landfills. In the U.S. alone, about 8,000 will be removed in each of the next four years. Europe, which has been dealing with the problem longer, has about 3,800 coming down annually through at least 2022, according to BloombergNEF. It’s going to get worse: Most were built more than a decade ago, when installations were less than a fifth of what they are now.

Bloomberg added that the blades can’t be repurposed, or crushed, or recycled. So, they are all just destined to end up in landfills.

They also never degrade!!

That means these things are stuck in the landfills “forever,” Bloomberg noted.

Even when they are burned in an attempt to use them for energy production, it is practically a useless effort:

In the European Union, which strictly regulates material that can go into landfills, some blades are burned in kilns that create cement or in power plants. But their energy content is weak and uneven and the burning fiberglass emits pollutants.

So, think about this. These wind turbines don’t really give much useful power when they are twirling in the wind. And then, when these turbines break down and need to be disposed of, they become an ecological mess!

Isn’t this so typical of how the left works? All full of wild promises that come to nothing? In fact, their wonderful “green” ideas always make matters worse!

Maryland County Admits They Haven’t Recycled Garbage for Seven Years Despite Recycling rules

A Maryland county has finally admitted it has not recycled glass for seven years despite requiring residents to separate their garbage.

A Maryland county has finally admitted it has not recycled glass for seven years despite requiring residents to separate their garbage.

Baltimore County has been forcing residents to separate glass from their regular garbage for decades and telling them that the county is recycling the glass. But despite paying extra garbage trucks to pick up the glass, and despite telling residents to continue separating their garbage, the county hasn’t recycled any glass at all for almost a decade, already.

Instead of recycling the glass, the county has just been trashing it all with its regular garbage, reported.

“There are numerous issues with glass recycling, including increased presence of shredded paper in recycling streams which contaminates materials and is difficult to separate from broken glass fragments, in addition to other limitations on providing quality material,” county spokesperson Sean Naron told media.

But it gets worse. Apparently, the recycling ended in 2013, the very same year that the county opened a $23 million, tax-funded recycling center.

What a huge waste of cash!

The facility is called a “single-stream” recycling plant. It allows a machine to separate recyclables automatically instead of using humans to pick through the trash.

But it turns out that the county stopped the recycling because the glass is all too often contaminated with food and paper making the glass too impure to be worth recycling.

It’s all just another scam for government to boost costs, waste money on useless technology, and put cash in the pockets of their pals who sell that tech.

So, why did county officials continue to tell residents to continue separating their garbage and continuing this recycling ruse? Because they are so dedicated to the pretense that they love recycling, reality and truth doesn’t even matter.

Climate Change Activists Disrupt Black Friday Shopping

Climate change crazies across the world surged into shopping malls to disrupt shoppers as they hit the shopping centers on Black Friday.

Climate change crazies across the world surged into shopping malls to disrupt shoppers as they hit the shopping centers to find those Black Friday bargains.

In once case, whiny demonstrators hit Chicago’s Magnificent Mile and its famed Water Town Place to try and block shoppers from getting into stores. The attacks were planned by the nuts with the Illinois Youth Climate Strike.

“We will be disrupting business as usual to make sure shoppers cannot ignore the climate emergency,” said coordinator Lillie Schneyer, 23. “Watertower Place is an ideal setting for us to draw attention to the culpability of large corporations and fast fashion who have put profits for a greedy few ahead of the needs of many, contributing to catastrophic impacts on our climate and the rising inequality and poor working conditions that we see as twin crises in our country today.”

Then there were the malcontents of the Northwest Indiana Youth Council who planned to perpetrate a “Day of Defiance” outside a mall in Hobart, Indiana.

“Today is especially important because it’s a massive consumer holiday. Textile consumption is estimated to be the second biggest contributor to climate change. And the tech industry, through planned obsolescence, creates a lot of waste,” Indiana University freshman Ethyl Ruehman said.

Hey friends, I just wanted to address something major, as I have helped organize and will be taking part of NWI Youth'…

Foolhardy activists in Washington, D.C. also planned a closed-casket “Black Friday Funeral For Future” outside the U.S. Capitol building. Organizers planned to “eulogize and mourn all that has been lost and all that is threatened by the climate crisis,” followed by a funeral procession throughout the city.

The proto terrorists of Extinction Rebellion also jumped in with protests in New York City.

Few shoppers had any interest in these meaningless stunts, though, and this year’s Black Friday shopping was bigger than ever.

Climate Activist Greta Thunberg Sails Yacht Made of Petroleum Products to Climate Conference in Spain

Climate change hypocrite and teenage high priestess of global warming hysteria Greta Thunberg has been caught sailing a yacht made of non-sustainable petroleum products so she can make a climate change conference in Spain.

The 14-year-old scolder of the world who seems to think she was sent by God to save the earth was headed toward South America when she discovered that the conference she was headed toward was moved from Santiago, Chile, to Spain.

That left the arrogant girl stranded in the ocean too far away from the event in Spain to reach it in time via the sea.

But now, Thunberg has announced that another yachter has come to her rescue and offered her a ride to Spain.

Thunberg, who has refused to fly because — like all good communists — she opposes modernity, jumped to social media to make the happy announcement that she caught a ride.

“So happy to say I’ll hopefully make it to COP25 in Madrid,”she tweeted. “I’ve been offered a ride from Virginia on the 48ft catamaran La Vagabonde. Australians @Sailing_LaVaga ,Elayna Carausu & @_NikkiHenderson from England will take me across the Atlantic. We sail for Europe tomorrow morning!” Thunberg wrote last Tuesday.

So, what about this “48ft catamaran La Vagabonde”?

Well, it looks like the craft is just the type that ol’ Greta is supposed to be opposing.

As the Washington Times noted, “Twelve weeks after sailing into New York City, Greta hitched a ride back to Europe Wednesday with celebrity sailors Elayna Carausu and Riley Whitelum on La Vagabonde, a luxury catamaran made of petroleum products like fiberglass.”

The boat is an Outremer 45 that weighs 17,400 pounds and is made of fiberglass, or fiber-reinforced plastic. The yacht was pumped out of the ground by oil companies. It draws auxiliary power from twin Volvo Diesel engines.

Not very environmentally friendly, huh?

There were a few other points about this ride that seems to make Greta a hypocrite, too.

Greta’s father Svante Thunberg and British yachtswoman Nikki Henderson joined the La Vagabonde crew, raising questions about whether they flew across the pond only to sail back.

In addition to solar and hydro power, the craft is equipped with two diesel 30hp engines, according to Multihull Central, a boat-reviewing site, as noted by climate skeptic Tom Nelson.

This little chippie is nothing but a hypocrite.

Pot Prohibition Creates Environmental Nightmare as Cartel Cultivators Exploit US Nat’l Parks

With Canada and Mexico already taking steps to legalize marijuana, the abhorrent drug cartels are left with only one place to operate their violent and destructive black market.

America, the land of the free, has a long history of ill-advised prohibitions that create more harm than good, and that hasn’t changed in 2019.

Despite the fact that an ever-growing number of locales are legalizing the use of marijuana, the plant is still federally prohibited in the same way that heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine are.  This has given pot prohibition proponents the upper hand, politically, allowing an ever-more devastating black market to thrive here in the United States.

To make matters worse, both Canada and Mexico have now taken steps to legalize the plant, making the United States the sole nation in North America where Mexican drug cartels can operate their booming and clandestine business.

Not only do these violent and abhorrent pot peddlers pose a threat to American citizens and law enforcement agents, but they also create an incredible amount of damage to a wide swath of our nation’s most precious natural wonders.

Drug cartels are not only setting up huge marijuana farms on national forest lands in California, but they are also polluting the land and water with trash and toxic chemicals.

“The true crime here is the fact that they’re killing off basically America’s public lands, killing off the wildlife, killing off our water,” Kevin Mayer, a U.S. Forest Service law enforcement assistant special agent in charge, said. “This is stuff that, you know, it’s not gonna repair itself.”

A California public radio outlet reported that a coalition of environmentalists, law enforcement agents, politicians, and wildlife ecologists are trying to stop the drug operations and repair the damage:

Some in that coalition recently visited a site discovered deep in California’s Shasta-Trinity National Forest. They and a group of armed Forest Service agents made their way down a steep hillside above a creek on a warm fall day, through a tangle of Douglas fir and madrone trees and big leaf maples turned golden yellow. Finally, the forest gives way to a sprawling grow and camp site. It’s typical in shape: terraced plots carved erratically into a hillside scared [sic] by wildfire. The burned trees and new growth offer some cover from air surveillance. Two Mexican nationals were arrested at the site in September; they are suspected of being affiliates of a cartel. There’s some 3,000 pounds of trash here from discarded clothes and propane tanks to 3 miles of plastic irrigation pipes — an indication this site has likely been used for years. Most of it eventually will have to be hauled out by helicopter.

And it gets worse…

“This one is Bromethalin, which is a neurotoxin rodenticide,” wildlife ecologist Greta Wengert said, holding up an empty container used for rodent bait blocks.

“They also found a container of concentrated carbofuran, an insecticide banned by the Environmental Protection Agency. Carbofuran is produced in the U.S. by Pennsylvania-based FMC Corp, which exports the product to Mexico, India and other nations,” KVCR reported. “The European Union, Canada and Brazil have full bans on carbofuran.

“It is incredibly toxic,” Wengert said. “A quarter teaspoon could kill a 600-pound black bear. So obviously just a tiny amount can kill a human. It remains in an ecosystem for a long period of time.”

“We have detected [carbofuran] in the soil, in cannabis plants, in native vegetation, the water, the infrastructure,” Wengert said.

Those toxins then travel throughout the ecosystem, spread by the otherwise natural processes that occur in these protected areas.

Again, this is all thanks to the national government’s prohibition of the plant, and the direct contribution that this has to the black market here in the United States.  The only true way to combat these illegal grow operations is to make them unviable and unprofitable, and the easiest way to do that is through the national legalization of cannabis – as has been done in Canada and Mexico already.

President Donald Trump Officially Pulling Out of Paris Accord Climate Change Agreement

President Donald Trump revealed this week that he is officially pulling the United States out of the Paris Accord climate change agreement.

Marking another campaign promise kept, President Donald Trump revealed this week that he is officially pulling the United States out of the Paris Accord climate change agreement.

On Monday, the president noted that after years of waiting, the United Nations has now been told that the U.S. will officially pull out of the accords. Trump said the process to exit the agreement will start immediately.

The announcement was revealed in a statement Monday from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

“President Trump made the decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement because of the unfair economic burden imposed on American workers, businesses, and taxpayers by U.S. pledges made under the Agreement,” Pompeo said. “The United States has reduced all types of emissions, even as we grow our economy and ensure our citizens’ access to affordable energy.”

Trump has always criticized the accord and made a promise to get the U.S. out of the deal if he became president.

He continued bashing the agreement after winning the White House.

For instance, in a speech in the White House Rose Garden in June of 2017, Trump slammed the accord as a “bad deal” for the U.S.A. because it allowed major polluters like China, India, and other countries to continue increasing emissions while hampering the U.S. with economy-killing rules.

“The fact that the Paris deal hamstrings the United States while empowering some of the world’s top-polluting countries should dispel any doubt as to why foreign lobbyists wish to keep our magnificent country tied up and bound by this agreement,” Trump said.

The decision comes ahead of the kick-off of the 2020 election campaign season and will undoubtedly serve as a selling point of being a promise the president has kept while in office.

California SLAMMED by EPA Over Pollution Relating to Homelessness

This is just the latest spat between the President and The Golden State.

For weeks, the Trump administration has been at odds with the State of California regarding its own environmental regulations.

For starters, the Golden State had planned to implement new regulations regarding emissions for commuter cars  – something that the White House worked to strike down.

President Donald Trump’s plan to eliminate California’s right to set its own auto emissions standards could spur automakers to make larger vehicles that emit more tailpipe pollution, which contributes to climate change.

But the automakers may not dramatically shift their strategies.

Trump’s plan, which he disclosed Wednesday in a series of tweets, is likely to be delayed in a federal court battle with California. Under a federal waiver, California has historically set stricter emissions standards, but Trump is attempting to cancel the waiver.

He pledged that the move would create “much less expensive” vehicles and “new, extremely environmentally friendly cars.”

This sparked a nasty war of words between California lawmakers and President Trump, which has now come full circle as the President decries the state’s embarrassing homelessness epidemic and the pollution that comes along with it.

In yet another strike against California, the Trump administration accused the state of “failing to protect Californians from degraded water,” specifically citing concerns about waste from homeless populations getting into sewer systems.

Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler wrote to California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday alleging the state has not addressed water pollution tied to thehomelessness crisis in major cities like San Francisco, specifically when the sewer system can overflow during heavy rain and release untreated water into other areas like the San Francisco Bay.

The issue of homelessness, particularly in San Francisco, has spawned a number of creative, neighborhood-specific solutions to the problem.

Just this week, large boulders were placed on city sidewalks in order to prevent vagrants and the disenfranchised from camping out in front of homes and businesses.
