Los Angeles Wasted $10 Million on Electric Police Cars — Now It’s Dumping Them Cheap

Los Angeles wasted $ten million on a fleet of electric-powered police cars, never used them, and now is dumping them at less than half their original price.

Los Angeles wasted ten million dollars on a fleet of electric-powered police cars, never used them, and now is dumping them at less than half their original price tag.

Back in 2016, L.A. made a big deal out of its fleet of 100 electric BMW i3 hatchbacks. The city spent $3 million on the cars and then sunk another $7 into infrastructure to support an electric fleet.

So, with high promises of being all “green,” and everything, L.A. ponied up $43,395 per car to get its “green” fleet up and running.

But by 2018, KCAL discovered that the city’s vaunted green fleet was sitting idle and completely unused, not even for the non-emergency services they were purchased for.

Now, the city is dumping the boat anchors for less than half of what they bought them for.

According to The Current Review:

New Century BMW, the dealer that handled the leases initially, is currently selling them as CPO models. Interestingly, the front plates on the i3s in the LAPD parking garage are from Century BMW, proving the conclusion. Additionally, all the Capparis White i3s with Deka World interiors and 19-inch aluminum wheels for sale on Century’s website have their Carfaxes listed as “government vehicle.” Unfortunately for the county of Los Angeles, these i3s took a severe blow in their value. All of LAPD’s i3s for sale are all under $20,000, even ones with four-digit mileages. This is a significant disparity from their original starting price of $43,395.

These are essentially tricked out, but brand new cars!

This is typical of momentary, leftist, hooplah programs. Oh, its a big celebration when a city or state goes all-in on some foolish left-wing idea. They spend millions on it and everyone nods their head saying what a wonderful thing it all is.

Then, when they think no one is looking, they shutter the whole thing they wasted millions of tax dollars on because it was always a childish boondoggle from word go.

Electric Hybrid Cars Emit THREE TIMES More Carbon than Enviros Claim

A new report finds that Electric Hybrid Cars emit three times more carbon that environuts claim.

A new report finds that Electric Hybrid Cars emit three times more carbon that environuts claim.

Hybrid cars are touted as “greener” because their electric motors do not use fossil fuels, and they can use far less gas in their gas mode. However, recent studies find that they are not as carbon neutral as the left constantly claims.

But the new studies show that the supposed fuel consumption rates are far worse than the enviro Nazis and manufacturers of these vehicles claim.

And why is that? According to the Daily Mail, the reason these vehicles get worse mileage than claimed is because they are far heavier than regular cars due to the weight of their batteries.

Then there are the owners who make the mistake of forgetting to keep the batteries fully charged. And then, because they aren’t charged, they continue running them on the gas engines like a normal car!

That last bit is hilarious.

Seriously. Imagine what this means. It means these nitwits who buy these pieces of junk do so to puff themselves up as “saviors of the earth.” And then, they don’t even use the car in the “earth-saving” mode!

In one report, The Miles Consultancy company audited the fuel consumption rates of most of the popular lug-in hybrids and found major discrepancies in what people were told about them.

The Crewe-based company found that the vehicles — produced by such manufacturers as BMW, Mercedes, Mitsubishi and Volkswagen — often returned fuel consumption figures between 2.5–3 times higher than had been advertised.

An audit of 187 regularly-charged plug-in hybrid BMWs, for example, found an average fuel economy of only 42 miles per gallon, compared to the claimed 137 miles per gallon.

Experts have also found that CO2-emission are a lot higher:

In fact, a 2018 study of plug-in hybrids by researchers in Norway concluded that ‘the average yearly estimated CO2-emission was about 2.5 times higher than the value stated in the type approval official CO2-emission test’, the Telegraph reported.

So much for the claims.

But another obvious point is the fact that these plug-ins take power from the electric grid. And where does that power come from? In many cases, the “dirty coal” power plants that environuts want to destroy.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Cited As Tax Dollar Wasting ‘Porker of the Year’ for 2019

New York Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been cited as the tax dollar wasting “Porker of the Year” for 2019, a report says.

New York Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been cited as the tax dollar wasting “Porker of the Year” for 2019, a report says.

Government watchdog group Citizens Against Government Waste announced its “2019 Porker of the Year” awards naming Ocasio-Cortez the worst member of Congress because of her sponsorship of the farcical Green New Deal.

CAGW President Tom Schatz said that Ocasio-Cortez received a majority 54 percent in his organization’s online poll.

Ocasio-Cortez easily beat out Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, who garnered 25 percent.

“The results are not surprising, as Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s $93 trillion proposal exemplifies the Congress’s failure to protect the taxpayers’ hard-earned money, “Schatz said. “For pushing a radical plan that would destroy the American economy, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez deserves the distinction of 2019 Porker of the Year.”

The group added:

In February, Rep. Ocasio-Cortez introduced H. Res. 109, to recognize “the duty of the Federal Government to create a Green New Deal,” through a “10-year national mobilization effort” to drastically remake the U. S. economy. Her bill would be a disaster for American taxpayers for a litany of reasons that are difficult to count. The American Action Forum estimated that the total cost of the proposal would be $93 trillion. To put that figure in perspective, it would more than quadruple the current national debt of $22 trillion that the United States has accumulated in the last 240 years. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and her allies have yet to submit a plan that comes even remotely close to paying for this tsunami of new spending.

The group continued:

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s own office admitted, in a document they later had to disavow, that some of their goals were to, “replace every combustion-engine vehicle” and create rail systems so that “air travel stops becoming necessary,” and to provide, “economic security for all who are unable or unwilling to work.” To be fair, they had to grudgingly admit that, “we aren’t sure that we’ll be able to fully get rid of farting cows and airplanes that fast.” Yes, farting cows are apparently a huge concern to the American people.

CAGW is the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse, and mismanagement in government. Porker of the Year is a dubious honor given to a lawmaker, government official, or political candidate who has shown the most blatant disregard for the interests of taxpayers throughout the year.

Green Fail: Billion-Dollar Solar Power Plant was Obsolete Before it Even Opened

In an example of green energy failure, a huge solar power facility that the Obama administration spent $1 billion to build was obsolete before it even opened.

In an example of green energy failure, a huge solar power facility that the Obama administration spent a cool one billion dollars to build was obsolete before it even opened.

Nice going, Obama.

The futuristic looking Crescent Dunes solar plant may look impressive with its ten thousand mirrored panels spiraling for two miles across the Nevada desert, but the word “boondoggle” describes the facility better than anything else.

As Bloomberg describes the plant situated in the desert near Tonopah, between Reno and Las Vegas:

In 2011 the $1 billion project was to be the biggest solar plant of its kind, and it looked like the future of renewable power. Citigroup Inc. and other financiers invested $140 million with its developer, SolarReserve Inc. Steven Chu, the U.S. Department of Energy secretary at the time, offered the company government loan guarantees, and Harry Reid, then the Senate majority leader and senior senator from Nevada, cleared the way for the company to build on public land. At a Washington celebration of SolarReserve’s public funding, Chief Executive Officer Kevin Smith told the assembled politicians, “We’re proud to be doing our part to win the future.”

Sadly, all that celebration and promises quickly fell apart for the Crescent Dunes project:

…today the company doesn’t rank among the winners. Instead, it’s mired in litigation and accusations of mismanagement at Crescent Dunes, where taxpayers remain on the hook for $737 million in loan guarantees. Late last year, Crescent Dunes lost its only customer, NV Energy Inc., which cited the plant’s lack of reliability.

The power plant was supposed to supply the nearby town of Sparks, Nevada, with all the power it would ever need.

But in the end, it never even came close.

Bloomberg added:

The steam generators at Crescent Dunes require custom parts and a staff of dozens to keep things humming and to conduct regular maintenance. By the time the plant opened in 2015, the increased efficiency of cheap solar panels had already surpassed its technology, and today it’s obsolete—the latest panels can pump out power at a fraction of the cost for decades with just an occasional hosing-down.

Now, the whole boondoggle sits idle in the desert, shut down and providing no power to anyone.

Yeah. Thanks, Obama.
