Happening Today: NBC News Ends ‘Megyn Kelly Today’ After Controversy

Megyn Kelly Today is about to become yesterday’s news.

By Robert Jonathan

Megyn Kelly Today is about to become yesterday’s news.

NBC News has cancelled the 9 a.m. Eastern time hour of the Today show franchise known as Megyn Kelly Today. Fortunately, staffers for that Today time slot will apparently continue to have jobs moving forward under a new host or hosts.

Trending: Coroner Saying George Floyd Died of Drug Overdose, Not Police Brutality

As the entire universe knows by now, Kelly got into hot water this week with the Halloween-blackface comments. Given the flat ratings for her NBC platform, the network may have seized the moment to cut ties with her.

The outcome may have been a combination of bad judgment and bad ratings, with NBC opportunistically getting rid of the opportunist.

Kelly’s new attorney — who maintains at this time that she is still an NBC employee — is currently negotiating how much cash she’ll take with her from her three-year, $69 million contract. Kelly no longer has an agent, having parted ways with the high-profile CAA group.

Nonetheless, multimillionaire Megyn Kelly has amassed generational wealth as media pundit.

Regardless of the outcome of the settlement, no one will ever have to hold a bake sale for the former Fox News Channel anchor who helped bring down the late Roger Ailes, the ex-FNC CEO, over sexual harassment allegations.

Jumping on the #MeToo bandwagon as an opportunistic way to bring in viewers to Megyn Kelly Today which premiered in September 2017, Kelly was also vocal in her criticism of how NBC handled the Matt Lauer sexual harassment accusations and has implied that she has some dirt on Lauer, which can’t have pleased her network overlords.

Mediaite columnist John Ziegler asserted that Kelly’s #MeToo card was revoked when she spoke out in favor of giving then-Judge Brett Kavanaugh due process during his U.S. Senate confirmation ordeal. She no longer had any “conservative street cred” either after dissing the Fox News audience, he added.

Against that backdrop, when Megyn Kelly famously accused then-candidate Donald Trump of misogyny in the famous August 2015 GOP presidential debate, many felt that the interrogation was more about careerism and auditioning for a job with the mainstream media, a.k.a. liberal street cred, than a legitimate journalistic inquiry.

“Only Rosie O’Donnell,” the future president famously quipped in response, although that exchange sparked a feud that ran through the campaign season.

As this blog noted previously, and as alluded to above, Megyn Kelly lacked a constituency.

For example, as a commenter on the Johnny Dollar’s Place website put it, “Her confrontation of Trump in the debate got her the job, but she was still tainted by her Fox News affiliation to viewers of NBC.”

You may recall that during the election season, the former corporate lawyer turned The Kelly File into a sanctimonious anti-Trump and Never Trump forum, alienating many FNC viewers in the process.

Flash forward to Megyn Kelly Today today: She lacked, no pun intended, support within NBC itself; it was obviously a signal that her remarks were publicly condemned by her NBC colleagues, including network chairman Andrew Lack, along with the quick-to-pounce, virtue-signaling social justice cohort on Twitter.

The New York Post summarized the highlights or lowlights of Megyn Kelly’s tumultuous tenure at NBC.

Media industry experts weigh in

In a perceptive piece, Breitbart writer John Nolte implies that Kelly was done in by her ambition and reminds us that she timed her book tour for Settle for More as an anticipated victory lap after the 2016 election.

“She wanted it all. She wanted to be accepted and loved by the establishment media. So, through Machiavellian means, starting with the public betrayal of her Fox fans, she let the establishment media know she was ready to become one of them.

“Her plan was to single-handedly take down Donald Trump. This was her way of sending a message, her way of letting potential suitors know she was ready to sell out, to join the Borg collective, and to enjoy all the rewards that come to sellouts (see: SE Cupp, Joe Scarborough, Matthew Dowd, Nicolle Wallace, etc…).

‘As she betrayed her Fox fans with her shrill and narcissistic attacks on Trump, Kelly readied the second part of her plan, a memoir titled Settle for More. The promotional tour was perfectly timed — it would begin just days after Trump lost the presidential election…

“Trump won the presidency, and instead of looking like a champion, Kelly looked exposed — ridiculous, caught off guard, and foolish.”

Although it would seem that Megyn Kelly was a willing participant, Nolte claims that the peacock network lured her into a trap, first by putting her on a failed Sunday night news magazine show and then trying to transform her into a daytime diva.

” …[I]n her quest for establishment media acceptance, she betrayed her base of support, and now she has no one to defend her, no audience to return to. Kelly bet it all, and by doing so sold out her own fans, which left her with no one to come to her defense as NBC outmaneuvered, outsmarted, and circled for the kill — which had been NBC’s plan from the beginning.

‘And the irony is almost too perfect…

“To attract NBC News, Kelly mercilessly wielded virtue signaling against Trump as she shamelessly peacocked her own image by smearing him as a sexist, a pig, a hater of women.

“And now she will limp out of NBC News a victim of bullying virtue signalers smearing her as racist.”

Added The Hill media columnist Joe Concha: “In the end, Lack threw Kelly under the bus when things got inconvenient, despite hiring and touting her heavily. He should have reprimanded her in a closed-door meeting, instead of airing his grievances publicly to other members of his staff and risking comments leaking to the press.”

On his Outkick the Coverage blog, Fox Sports host Clay Travis echoed other observers along with opining that Megyn Kelly made an ignorant, tone-deaf comment but implied that it didn’t rise to a fireable offense.

“It seems to me that many at NBC didn’t like her and were looking for a reason to force her out. Seriously, think about all that is going on in the world and NBC chose to spend two days on their national news talking about Megyn Kelly’s opinion on Halloween costumes? It seems like top brass at NBC wanted her gone and used this story to hasten her exit

Country Singer Chris Stapleton Says He Now Realizes America is Evil

Country Singer Chris Stapleton says he now realizes that the United States is evil and the country he grew up thinking was great is a myth.

Country Singer Chris Stapleton says he now realizes that the United States is evil and the country he grew up thinking was great is a myth.

Speaking to CBS, the “Broken Halos” singer said that the death of Minneapolis man George Floyd was a turning point for him.

Stapleton said that Floyd’s police-involved death was a “broad awakening” for him.

“I think everybody should be doing more,” he said, according to Fox News. “It’s time for me to listen. And it’s time for other folks to listen.”

He added that Floyd’s death made him realize something about the country.

“You know, I thought we were living in a different country. And that’s 100% real,” the “Tennessee Whiskey” singer explained. “I feel like the country that I thought that we were living in was a myth.”

The Kentucky native said that he is now a big believer in the Black Lives Matter terrorist cause.

“Do I think Black lives matter? Absolutely… I don’t know how you could think they don’t. I think we all have a lot of work to do, you know, as individuals as a society. And if you don’t think that, I think you’re not looking,” he said.

The singer’s latest album is also a political statement.

Per Fox:

Stapleton’s latest album also touches upon another sad moment in recent American memory, the 2017 mass shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas that left 59 people dead. The track “Watch You Burn” features lyrics like, “Only a coward would pick up a gun, and shoot up a crowd trying to have fun.”

Looks like patriotic country fans have another singer to cross off their list.

Screw Art: Oscars Will Now Only Allow Entry to Films that Meet Diversity Quotas

The Academy of Motion Pictures has announced that no film will be allowed to enter the race for an Oscar unless they meet politically correct “diversity quotas.”

The Academy of Motion Pictures has announced that no film will be allowed to enter the race for an Oscar unless they meet politically correct “diversity quotas.”

Remember when Hollywood used to contend that they made “art”?

Remember in the 60s and 70s when politicians used to complain about movies and Hollywood said it was disgusting to force ideological censorship on their “art” because it violated their “artistic integrity”?

Now they are censoring themselves for PC “diversity” and none of them are squawking about their “art.”

Gutless hypocrites.

Per National Review:

Ahead of the #OscarsSoWhite controversy’s fifth anniversary, the Academy has announced a new set of inclusion requirements films must meet to be awards-eligible.

To be eligible for best picture, films must meet the standards of two out of four categories laid out in a press release on Tuesday: “Onscreen Representation, Themes and Narratives,” “Creative Leadership and Project Team,” “Industry Access and Opportunities” and “Audience Development.”

Recent best picture nominees including “1917” and “The Irishman” may have struggled to meet the new onscreen standards that will require at least one of the following criterion to be met: at least one of the lead actors or significant supporting actors is from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group; at least 30% of all actors in secondary and more minor roles are from certain underrepresented groups; or the main storyline, theme or narrative is centered on an underrepresented group.

To meet the creative leadership and project team standard, at least two “creative leadership positions and department heads” must be filled by those belonging to underrepresented groups, including the “casting director, cinematographer, composer, costume designer, director, editor, hairstylist, makeup artist, producer, production designer, set decorator, sound, VFX supervisor and/or writer.” At least six other crew positions must also be filled by those belonging to underrepresented groups. Such “positions include but are not limited to first AD, gaffer, script supervisor” and more.

“Academy governors DeVon Franklin and Jim Gianopulos headed a task force to develop the standards that were created from a template inspired by the British Film Institute (BFI) Diversity Standards used for certain funding eligibility in the UK and eligibility in some categories of the British Academy of Film and Television (BAFTA) Awards, but were adapted to serve the specific needs of the Academy,” explained the release. “The Academy also consulted with the Producers Guild of America (PGA), as it presently does for Oscars eligibility.”

So… who cares about any director, writer, or actor’s “artistic integrity”?

Now we are making films under racial quotes?

This will mean the absolute destruction of the careers of tens of thousands of white people in the film industry who will suddenly find that they are un-hirable.

We will also see fewer people going to Hollywood to work in the film industry in the first place.

But maybe that’s a good thing.

Twitter Erupts After HBO Pulls Classic Film Over Portrayal of African Americans

Many have rebuked the idea of sanitizing historical fiction altogether, and are warning us that there are plenty of other films that could soon be banished from pop culture.

Americans the nation over are experiencing some growing pains as of late, after the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police reawakened our struggles with racism and inequality.

This has been the singular issue of focus in the United States for over two weeks now, which is an impressive feat given the ongoing global pandemic that we are facing.

Beyond the obvious activism, however, there has been a renewed push to sanitize history as well – and not everyone is thrilled with that idea.

Gone With the Wind, the Civil War epic considered a classic of American cinema, has been temporarily pulled from HBO Max.

The move comes as media companies reappraise content in light of nationwide protests over police brutality and systemic racism after the death of George Floyd, a Black man killed by Minnesota police. Earlier on Tuesday, Paramount Network cancelled the long-running police reality show Cops.

Why now?

Long considered controversial for its depiction of Black people and its positive view of slavery, Gone With the Wind faced renewed scrutiny after an op-ed by 12 Years A Slave screenwriter John Ridley published in the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday. In the op-ed, Ridley called on HBO Max to “consider removing” Gone With the Wind from its platform as the film had its “own unique problem.” “It doesn’t just “fall short” with regard to representation. It is a film that glorifies the antebellum south. It is a film that, when it is not ignoring the horrors of slavery, pauses only to perpetuate some of the most painful stereotypes of people of color,” Ridley wrote.

He added: “It is a film that, as part of the narrative of the “Lost Cause,” romanticizes the Confederacy in a way that continues to give legitimacy to the notion that the secessionist movement was something more, or better, or more noble than what it was — a bloody insurrection to maintain the “right” to own, sell and buy human beings.”

The move briefly caused Blazing Saddles to trend on Twitter, with many wondering how long the classic parody film will remain available to watch in this climate of social justice.

Anderson Cooper Resorts to Grade School Bullying on Subject of Trump’s ‘Girth’

This is purely despicable.

For as often as CNN feigns remorse at the bombast displayed by President Trump, you would think that someone at the network would be responsible for making sure that the left-leaning infotainment company practices what they preach.

Apparently not.

This week, as the network once again spends hours and hours attempting to belittle and delegitimize the Trump White House, anchor Anderson Cooper went a step further and resorted to fat-shaming the leader of the free world.  Even more disturbing was the fact that the attack came as Cooper was discussing a series of controversial tweets by the President that themselves have been characterized as “bullying”.

Cooper said, “Leadership today also apparently consists of spreading vile conspiracy theories on Twitter about a former staffer for then-Congressman Joe Scarborough and doing it over and over again. Traumatizing her family and her husband so deeply that he begged the company to take down the president’s tweets because they’re not true about his wife.”

After playing a clip of Trump defending his Tweets at a press conference earlier, Cooper said, “What a little man. He’s just a little man. He’s the leader of the free world, and he is a little, little man. A self-proclaimed wartime leader — a leader in the midst, he says, of a transition to greatness for the country, spreading falsehoods about a dead woman, despite the pain and the pleas of her husband and family and doesn’t have the guts to say he doesn’t care about what they think. No, no, he doesn’t have the guts to say, ‘You know what, I don’t care what they think because this serves my political purposes.’ That’s why he’s doing it. He doesn’t have the guts to say that because he is just a little man despite his girth and size. He’s a little man inside, and he knows that. That, too, is now what leadership looks like. The president of the United States raising conspiracy theories about a dead woman, though her family is begging Twitter to take them down.”

If anyone had remarked on the “girth” or “size” of any other world leader, they would immediately be yanked off the air and sent to sensitivity training.

Meghan McCain Trashes Chris and Andrew Cuomo Over Hokey-Jokey CNN Segment

You know things are rough at CNN when The View is producing more hard-hitting journalism than the “worldwide leader in news”.

In New York State, there is great heartbreak this week.

Not only was New York City the epicenter of the global coronavirus pandemic for weeks on end, but Empire State Governor Andrew Cuomo is now being accused of recklessly endangering a vast number of at-risk Americans by sending COVID-19 patients to be treated at nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Despite this horrific controversy being the number one story out of New York State this week, Governor Cuomo’s brother, CNN Anchor Chris Cuomo, refused to bring it up while the two spent a significant portion of the latter Cuomo’s show together, enraging America in the process.

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo sparked Twitter outrage on Wednesday night when he again did not address New York’s growing nursing-home controversy in his latest interview with his brother, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and instead performed prop comedy with giant cotton swabs.

The response was swift.

Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., has been the leading voice calling for an investigation into the Democratic governor’s original March directive. “Today I joined my [New York GOP] colleagues in the House to call for a federal investigation of Cuomo’s failed nursing home policies,” Stefanik tweeted Friday. “NOW they admit they unethically changed the way they report nursing home deaths. An INEXCUSABLE tragedy for NY — NEED ANSWERS.”

But you would never know it if you watched “CNN Prime Time,” where Chris Cuomo spent 25 minutes chatting up his older brother, who he calls the “Love Gov” on-air, and never asked about the controversy. Instead, the CNN anchor played a clip of his brother taking a coronavirus test where a nurse placed a cotton swab up his nostril and joked about the size of his sibling’s nose, complete with props.

Perhaps the most biting criticism came from Meghan McCain via Twitter.

You know things are rough at CNN when The View is producing more hard-hitting journalism than the “worldwide leader in news”.

Tara Reade Legal Team Quits After CNN Publishes Hit Piece on Biden Accuser

Where was their hit piece on Stormy Daniels?

The Democrats certainly spent an inordinate amount of time talking about Stormy Daniels and the Access Hollywood incident, didn’t they?  Are we all remembering just how much time was wasted on those stories?

Sure, they are stories that we should hear.  They shouldn’t be squirreled away forever, and we are Americans who have the right to vote for whomever we want – including someone who may says things that make us uncomfortable.  But those stories very well could have come and gone in a  night or two, if it weren’t for the mainstream media’s incessant and constant coverage of them.

Now that Joe Biden is being accused of sexual assault by a former staffer, however, much of the infotainment industry is dead quiet.

Well, expect for CNN, who has decided that it’s not only a good idea to publish a hit piece attacking Biden’s accuser, but then they go and brag about their handiwork forcing her lawyers to quit.

A lawyer who represented Tara Reade, the woman who has accused Joe Biden of sexually assaulting her in 1993, announced Friday that Reade is no longer his firm’s client.

Doug Wigdor said the decision to no longer represent Reade was made on Wednesday, the day after CNN published an extensive investigation about Reade’s background and past statements. In the report, CNN first revealed problems with Reade’s claim that she received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Antioch University in Seattle; the school denied to CNN that she ever graduated from the university.

Wigdor had sent CNN a lengthy statement on Monday responding to numerous questions related to the story. However, Reade directly contacted CNN on Monday night to discuss the issue of her degree from Antioch, telling a CNN reporter that she had asked for and received permission from Wigdor to reach out directly.

CNN would go on to repeat their claims against Reade later in this same gloating piece, only further pushing the idea that Reade is not credible.

This is in spite of the fact that several witnesses have emerged to state that they explicitly recall Reade telling them of the incident around the time that it occurred in 1993.

Shock Jock Stern Says Trump Should ‘Resign’, Claims it Would be ‘Patriotic’

Some people will say anything for a buck.

Whenever some mainstream media figure says something that gets our blood boiling, we need to step back and take stock of the situation.

You see, these figureheads get paid to do that.  Their livelihood depends on just how riled up they can get us, as we then present their content to our friends and followers in order to either espouse their wisdom or to eviscerate their ethos.

Stern makes millions while your blood pressure waxes and wanes, and the more outrageous the things coming out of his mouth become, the more likely it is that he’s getting desperate for attention.

This week was no exception.

Stern ranted: “One thing Donald loves is celebrities, he loves the famous.

“He loves it. He loves to be in the mix.”

His comments come despite Trump being a one-time frequent guest on his show.

Trump even attended the 2008 wedding of Stern and model Beth Ostrosky.

Laying into Trump voters, Stern said: “The oddity in all of this is the people Trump despises most, love him the most.

“The people who are voting for Trump for the most part … he wouldn’t even let them in a f***ing hotel.

“He’d be disgusted by them. Go to Mar-a-Lago, see if there’s any people who look like you. I’m talking to you in the audience.”

Then came the clincher:

“I do think it would be extremely patriotic of Donald to say ‘I’m in over my head and I don’t want to be president anymore.’

“It’d be so patriotic that I’d hug him and then I’d go back to Mar-a-Lago and have a meal with him and feel good about him because it would be such an easy thing to do.”

Stern and Trump once considered each other friends, but the radio host has been on a fairly solid anti-POTUS bender as of late.
