Blame Unions For Public School Failures

Published

on

How many of you have had teachers that did as little as possible to teach you anything?  With some of these teachers, you could get as much from reading the text as you could from listening to their long drawn out monotone lectures that were the perfect cure for insomnia.  There was nothing innovative about their lessons.  Their classes were boring to say the least.
Then there were those teachers that made learning fun.  They had different and unusual approaches to teaching that often captured your attention.  By the time you completed their class, you discovered that you actually learned something.
I recall my high school biology teacher, Mrs. Shipley.  She was an older woman and when you first looked at her, you thought she was going to be one of those boring teachers that I described above, but she was the exact opposite.  She made biology fun and she made it real.  Mrs. Shipley would often explain her lessons with flare, drama and an enthusiasm that made you want to know what was next.
We often studied for tests by dividing into quiz teams that competed against each other for extra credit.  It was a common practice to have non-venomous snakes being held during class time.   Sometimes on Friday’s if we had everything done, we would have the Friday Afternoon Fights.  Mrs. Shipley would place a glass beaker on an overhead projector and then she would place a black widow spider and scorpion in the beaker and we would watch them fight.  Sometimes the spider won and sometimes the scorpion won.  Mrs. Shipley was the kind of teacher that you never really knew what to expect in class, but were always anxious to find out.  She is the reason I pursued biology in college and graduate school.
Now let me ask you this question: should Mrs. Shipley have been paid exactly the same as the dry boring teacher that you learned very little from or do you think she should have been paid more because she was such a great teacher and students loved her classes?
Many school districts around the nation have tried to establish performance pay for teachers.  They feel that it not only rewards good teachers, but it gives poor and mediocre teachers an incentive to be better teachers.  However, very few school districts have such a program in effect and you know why?  Unions!
Teacher unions, especially the National Education Association (NEA) are against such thing as performance based pay for teachers.  For some reason the unions believe that such a performance based salary discriminates against the teachers that really shouldn’t be teachers in the first place.
Teachers’ unions do everything they can to block parents from having a choice of schools for their children.  In fact, according to Lindsey Burke of The Heritage Foundation, teachers’ unions have blocked a number of major positive reforms for public education.  Terry Moe, a Stanford professor and author of Special Interest: Teachers Unions and America’s Public Schools, says that most major reforms in education have failed because of the problems created by the unions.
As you look around the world and see how the American public education system falls further and further behind other nations, you can blame the teachers’ unions for a large part of that failure.  The only reform they are interested in is to promote and teach the liberal progressive and socialist concepts that destroy the values, morals and religious foundations that made America great.
When you go to a store and realize that the cashier can’t even count out your change without the help of the computer, thank the unions.  When you see them on the news and they sound like a complete illiterate, thank the unions.  When your kids come home and tell you that homosexuality is great and that their teachers told them to vote for Obama, blame the unions.  When your 13 year old daughter comes home and you find out she just had an abortion, thank the unions.  As America is being dragged into the cesspool of hedonism, debauchery and perverseness, thank the unions.

School Principal Who Said Football Players Should Stand for National Anthem is Suspended

A Louisiana high school principal who told his football players that they should stand for the national anthem is now being punished by the school district.

A Louisiana high school principal who told his football players that they should stand for the national anthem is now being punished by the school district.

The principal of Liberty High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Rob Howle, is on administrative leave after saying that he thinks it should be “mandatory that the players stand for the national anthem or this team will never get [any more] support from the administration,” according to WBRZ-TV.

Howle reportedly made his suggesting in a text to a member of the district in which he slammed the players for not standing for the anthem, adding “that was embarrassing. Playing football is a privilege not a right. If they don’t want to stand they can turn in their equipment and we will refund their money.”

Howle has been principal of the school for two years and this would have been his third. And the football team has him to thank for its existence because when he first came to the school, the football team had long since been disbanded. Howle brought it back when he became principal.

A spokeswoman for the school system later confirmed that Howle’s text was real.

The district also stood up for the students saying they have a First Amendment right to kneel during the national anthem.

In a public statement, the District said:

At the beginning of each school day, time shall be permitted for those students and teachers desiring to do so to observe a brief time in silent meditation (not intended or identified as a religious exercise), which shall not exceed five minutes, and for reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

Every assembly or meeting in each school should begin with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and with the playing or the singing of the National Anthem, and all students shall be encouraged to learn the words of the National Anthem. Throughout the playing (singing) of the National Anthem and/or the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, students shall be encouraged to exhibit respectful behavior.

The school recently went all woke by changing its name in July from Lee High School to Liberty because leftists wanted to send Robert E. Lee down the memory hole.

Penn. High School Student Suspended for Wearing Trump Shirt Sues District

A high school student in Pennsylvania is suing her district after she was suspended for daring to wear a Donald Trump t-shirt to school.

A high school student in Pennsylvania is suing her district after she was suspended for daring to wear a Donald Trump t-shirt to school.

Morgan Earnest, 15, is suing Mifflin County High School in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, after she was suspended when the school changed its policy on Oct. 1 barring political garb. Earnest insisted that the school infringed on her Constitutional right to free speech.

The teen decided to break the new ban on Oct. 12 and wore an entire outfit dedicated to Trump. Earnest wore a “Women for Trump” mask and a “Trump 2020 Keep America Great” T-shirt, despite the rule.

School administrators forced her to turn her shirt and mask inside out so that the political message could not be seen and then handed her a suspension.

“The district’s representatives further communicated that she would be sent home if she ever wore a mask or T-shirt expressing a political viewpoint again,” the girl’s lawsuit explains.

“This action is being taken due to complaints that have been received about such items and how those items have disrupted the education of students within the Mifflin County School District,” the school said of its ban.

Earnest said she wore the items previous to the ban and no one said they were offended.

The school has said it denies it stepped on the girl’s right to free speech.

“We stand by our decision, which was made in the interest of safety and to ensure students’ educational environment would not continue to be disrupted. The decision was made after careful consultation with our solicitor and additional special legal counsel,” the district said in a statement.

Teacher Orders Student to Take Down Trump Flag in His Home During Online Class

A leftist New Jersey teacher ordered a student to take down the Trump 2020 flag hanging in his bedroom during an online class session.

A leftist New Jersey high school teacher ordered a student to take down the Trump 2020 flag hanging on his bedroom wall during a recent online class session, a report says.

Toms River High School North junior Anthony Ribeiro told the media that his aunt gave him the flag this month as a birthday present. The 17-year-old student said that he then tacked the flag to his bedroom wall, according to JerseyShoreOnline.com.

In fact, the flag had been there for at least six previous online school sessions before the teacher attacked him for the banner during an October 8 class.

The remote learning conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic collided with the nation’s politically charged environment when…

Posted by The Toms River Times on Friday, October 9, 2020

“I was the first in because I make sure I am on time, but he looked up at the screen, didn’t say anything, and as people came in, he took attendance, and then said, ‘Anthony take the flag down right now,'” Ribeiro said. “My mic was muted because that is one of the requirements for meets this year and shook my head no, and he said [his] room wasn’t a place for politics and that was not acceptable and ‘if you aren’t going to take it down, you will have to get out of this class.'”

The teen slammed the teacher because he had been droning on about his personal left-wing politics during most of the online sessions.

“The school set up a system with a period of 15 minutes between every other class where you would talk about mental health and talk about what was going on in the world, and [the teacher] decided to talk about global warming for most of the days, and he would bring politics into it,” the teen said. “In learning, you need to have politics in social studies or history, but teachers have to be down the middle when it comes to being a Democrat or Republican.”

Ribeiro also said that the teacher attacked Republicans, saying, “said Republicans don’t believe in climate change or global warming, and Joe Biden and the Democrats are the people that will put light on what the science is to global warming. In one of his class periods [the teacher] said ‘that is why they have my vote this year in the election and hopefully in the future they will have yours.’ He said Republicans deny global warming is even a thing, which made it political.”

The teen added that he had some of his school friends tell him that he should be allowed to put whatever flag he wants in his own room.

Tara Jost, Ribeiro’s mother, also slammed the teacher. “This is in my own house,” she said.

“I said, ‘How dare he tell my son to leave his classroom because of something I have in my home?’ He’s a science teacher number one; number two, we’re Americans, and we all have the right in what we believe in, and he was talking politics the first week of class, which he has no right to do in telling them who to vote for,” the boy’s mother said.

The school has refused to make a public comment about the incident.

Maryland School Board Member Who Wished for Trump’s Death Resigns

A Hagerstown, Maryland, school board member who was caught wishing for Trump’s death is now resigning from her position.

A Hagerstown, Maryland, school board member who was caught wishing for Trump’s death is now resigning from her position.

The Washington County Board of Education, in Hagerstown which is situated just northwest of Washington D.C., erupted in controversy over the weekend when board member Jacqueline Fischer said that she hoped that President Donald Trump would die of the coronavirus.

In the post that caused the most consternation, Fischer wrote, “Of course Trump wouldn’t wear a mask and kept posing [with] people. He is an … [expletive] who does not give a fig about anyone but himself. He could care less how many Americans die from this virus even if he is the one who expose them. I hope he dies from it. That would take care of a lot of America’s problems.,” WFMD- AM reported.

Fischer added several other social media posts including:

“Since he has tested positive for VOVID19 [sic], maybe the country will get lucky and he will die. Wouldn’t that be an act of karma!”

And…

“Trump keeps down playing [sic] the virus, either by ignoring it or by lying about it. Now that he and Melania have tested positive for the virus, maybe he will change his tune. But I doubt it. Only if he dies of COVID19 [sic] will there be a change of attitude in the White House!”

Fischer tried to explain her posts away as mere pique.

“I said it in a heated moment after that terrible debate thing that happened the other night,” she told the Herald-Mail Media. “That’s what set me off.”

Regardless, several members of the board insisted that she went too far and should resign.

Now, it appears she is doing just that. According to a statement issued by the board:

The Washington County Board of Education (WCBOE) will formally accept the resignation of Board member Jacqueline Fischer at the Board of Education’s public business meeting on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at 6:00 p.m.

Members of the Board of Education will meet in person at the Center for Education Services, which remains closed to visitors as a precaution during the COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting will be available to the public at on the Washington County Public Schools website at: http://wcpsmd.com/school-board/board-meetings and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/wcpsmd.

Mrs. Fischer’s resignation comes after posting comments regarding the President of the United States on her personal social media account. The comments do not reflect the views, positions, or opinions of the WCPS or the WCBOE.

Members of the Board of Education will issue a public statement at the business meeting on October 6, 2020.

She’ll be no loss to the school system, that’s for sure.

Teacher Threatens Boy to Remove Trump Flag from Bedroom Wall During Online Class

A leftist Virginia high school teacher was enraged when she saw a Trump 2020 flag hanging on a student’s bedroom wall during an e-learning session.

A leftist Virginia high school teacher was enraged when she saw a Trump 2020 flag hanging on a student’s bedroom wall during an e-learning session online and demanded he remove it or be kicked out of her online class.

A 16-year-old student was attending the online class for Colusa High School in his bedroom where he has a campaign flag for Donald Trump’s reelection campaign hanging on the wall. But once his teacher saw the flag, she demanded that he remove it or be removed from the class. The boy refused, according to CBS13.

The teen’s mother, Tiffany (the rest of the names are not being reported to protect the teenager) said that her son told her his teacher scolded him during the e-learning session.

“You can sit up, remove the flag, or reposition your camera within the next 15 seconds or I’m kicking you out of class,” the teacher reportedly said.

The woman then began counting. Tiffany said her son didn’t wait for the teacher to stop counting and he turned off the computer on his own.

The boy’s mother explained that he has had the flag on his wall for months.

Still, the mother says she doesn’t blame the teacher because this is all so new to everyone.

Tiffany notes that the school dress codes do not prohibit political messages on clothing, and there is no guidance at all for what should be going on during the virtual classrooms. She blames the school board for its lack of leadership.

The teacher has since apologized for her demands that the boy remove the flag from his own bedroom wall.

Regardless, no teacher has any right to tell anyone what they should have in their own homes.

High School Students Suspended for Daring to Wave Pro-Police Flag Get Scholarships

The two Ohio high school football players where were suspended for daring to wave a set of pro-police flags have won themselves college scholarships.

The two Ohio high school football players where were suspended for daring to wave a set of pro-police flags have won themselves college scholarships.

Two weeks ago, Jarad Bentley and Brady Wilson of Little Miami High School were suspended for taking “Thin Blue Line” and a “Thin Red Line” flags onto the football field as a tribute to first responders during the school’s Sept. 11 Remembrance Day.

To be sure, the boys asked permission ahead of time and were denied — but they did it anyway. And the school suspended them for defying the ban on the flags. Initially they were “suspended indefinitely” for taking the flags on the field.

“Little Miami is saddened to see this story take such a negative turn. While we understand these students’ desire (to) show their support of first responders, they did not obtain permission from district officials. Administrators must act when students break the rules,” the school said in a statement according to Fox 19.

“The Patriot Night program to memorialize the victims of 9/11 was already part of our pre-game ceremonies on Friday, and the American flag is the first thing through the tunnel every Friday night. Little Miami enjoys an outstanding relationship with local first police and fire agencies, and a Little Miami school resource officer is also a high school football coach,” the school continued.

“Little Miami always has – and always will – support our first responders, our veterans, and all who sacrifice to maintain our freedoms,” they wrote.

But after a petition was launched demanding that the school reverse its suspension, the school district relented and let the boys return to school.

Now the boys have earned a pair of full scholarships for their patriotism.

“A local group called Holiday for Heroes is awarding scholarships to the two Little Miami teens who were briefly suspended from the high school football team for carrying two flags onto the field when the district said they were told not to,” WKRC reported.

“Brady and Jarad are true PATRIOTS, they did something last Friday that showed they are far beyond their years. These men stood up for a cause they believe in. As they took the field with flags in hand it reminded us how we felt 19 years ago, heartbroken yet strong and united,” the group said in a press release.

House Republicans Introduce Bill To Defund Schools Teaching Fake 1619 Project Agenda

With the steady advance of the anti-American 1619 Project though our schools, House of Republicans have introduced a bill to defund schools that teach it.

Published

on

With the steady advance of the anti-American 1619 Project though our schools, the Republicans in the House of Representatives have introduced a bill to defund schools that teach the fake, left-wing agenda instead of real history.

Colorado Rep. Ken Buck and Georgia Rep. Rick Allen filed the bill on Friday to serve as companion legislation introduced in July in the U.S. Senate by Arkansas Republican Sen. Tom Cotton.

“The 1619 Project teaches children a historically inaccurate account of our nation’s history,” Buck said in a Thursday press release. “Federal funding should not go towards schools that teach flawed and inaccurate curriculum in classrooms. We should be able to acknowledge the stains on our nation’s history while still continuing to celebrate the good our country has done.”

Co-sponsor Rep. Allen, continued saying, “The 1619 Project’s goal is to indoctrinate the idea in our nation’s young people that America is an evil country – which is far from the truth. Though our history is not perfect, we have overcome our challenges to create a land of opportunity for all. If we want to fight injustice and work toward a more perfect union, we must learn from our past and teach our students to do better – not teach false history. This legislation will ensure federal education funding is going towards truthful and historically accurate curriculum.”

“The New York Times’ 1619 Project is a racially divisive, revisionist account of history that denies the noble principles of freedom and equality on which our nation was founded. Not a single cent of federal funding should go to indoctrinate young Americans with this left-wing garbage,” Sen. Cotton said.

Rep. Buck’s statement added:

More than 4,500 school districts across the country have begun teaching history curricula based on the New York Times’ flawed and historically inaccurate 1619 Project. This progressive project elevates revisionist history despite multiple prominent historians pointing out numerous factual inaccuracies contained in the 1619 Project’s curriculum.

The federal government has a strong and clear interest to ensure federal education dollars are used to provide our children with an accurate accounting of our nation’s history, not to promote inaccurate curricula like the New York Times’ 1619 Project.
